Lady Luck plane metal plate

The Lady Luck airplane decoration plate in vintage style is part of the Pin-up collection. Pin-ups made their appearance in aviation during the First World War but were very popular during the second. They were painted on the fuselages of bombers participating in raids on Germany from the United Kingdom. Each crew thought about the design that would adorn the nose of their plane (hence the term “nose art”). The plane and crew were then identified by the girl’s name.

The use of pin-ups was not prohibited by military commanders who tolerated their use by crews. This was supposed to give balm to the hearts of soldiers often far from home and having to endure the enormous stress of the missions and often deplore the loss of comrades.

Young girls (pin-ups) were not the only subjects that inspired the crews. We sometimes find cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse or Popeye. All this added lightness to the oppressive atmosphere of the periods when the crews chained the dangerous missions.

Dimensions 20 X 30 cm in light metal. Vintage look to perfection for this pin-up in a swimsuit, riding a bomb intended for Nazi Germany. The rivets of the bomber are reproduced on the plate, imitating the metal fuselage.
