The C-160 TRANSALL

The C-160 TRANSALL is the result of a cooperation between Germany and France, who both needed a transport aircraft for their armed forces. TRANSALL is the contraction of “transport Allianz”. Only two other customers, the Turkish and South African air forces, have been equipped with them. Some civil operators have also used them, in particular the heir of the famous AEROPOSTALE.

More than 50 years after its first flight, the TRANSALL is still flying, even if its replacement is underway with the A400M ATLAS.

In addition to transporting men and equipment, the TRANSALL has evolved towards other missions such as in-flight refueling, electronic surveillance and special operations.

Germany retired its last TRANSALL at the end of 2021, the French Air Force did the same in 2022.
