Noting in Vietnam that American fighter pilots flying on increasingly technological planes had lost part of the art of close air combat, the US NAVY created the famous TOP GUN school in MIRAMAR for the dog fight ( close combat) is once again at the heart of the training of American fighter pilots. This jacket is a copy of those worn by school instructors. TOP GUN moved in 1996 to Lower Fallon, Nevada. It retains its vocation of combat training. The best pilots from each NAVY unit follow a 6-week training course.
