The American NASA has developed with this space shuttle allowing to go into orbit around the earth and come back to land on earth almost like an airplane. Unfortunately the fatal accident of the COLUMBIA shuttle which caused the death of the 7 crew members when it returned to earth in 2003 sealed the end of the program. This accident followed the explosion of the Challenger shuttle in 1986, which was also fatal for the 7 crew members. Nevertheless, they remain symbols of the conquest of space by man.
