The SR71 BLACKBIRD is a reconnaissance aircraft capable of flying at over 3 times the speed of sound. It was created when it became evident that the Soviets had missiles capable of intercepting the U2 DRAGON LADY at very high altitudes. The latter was flying very high but very slowly. The Blackbird, flying this high but at very high speed made an interception unlikely. Funny anecdote, the SR71 is comfortable with a very great warm-up linked to its very high speed … so much so that the pilots warmed their food by sticking their meal against the wall of the plane!

The assembly of the model:

Metal Earth models are made from high quality thin sheets of steel. Each model features amazing detail with parts cut from one or more sheets of steel. Easy to follow instructions are included with each kit and no gluing is required. Simply cut the pieces and bend the tabs through the corresponding connection points. The instructions are simple and clear.
