Large wall clock of nearly 40 cm by 40 cm in aviation style reproducing a very classic aviation instrument: The ball is an essential instrument for correctly piloting an airplane. It indicates whether the plane flies symmetrically or in a “crab” fashion. It is sometimes replaced, especially on gliders by a strand of wool stuck to the canopy. The goal is to keep the strand of wool “straight”. When the plane is equipped with a ball, it must be in the middle. At the start of learning to pilot, the instructor’s favorite and the student’s feared phrase is “Your Ball!” … the injunction systematically intervenes when the plane is asymmetrical!

the needle ball is a slightly more complex instrument than a simple ball that allows in blind flight to measure its rate of turn in degrees per second.
